Welcome to the Hawaii Military Life Blog for the Military DoD Traveler and Visitor

The DoD spotlight hotel this month is the Holiday Inn Express Waikiki. It is a DoD approved Temporary Lodging Accommodation (TLA) for Government travelers who also want to earn IHG Rewards towards 6000 other destinations around the world. I had the opportunity to stay the night with my Dog Nai’a and explore the area. It’s in an easy to get to location.

Visit www.hiexwaikiki.com for more photos and information.

The Holiday Inn Express Waikiki is located in a quieter area on the West side of Waikiki just a short 5 min walk to Fort DeRussy and Waikiki Beach. This Pet friendly Hotel is located across the street from a huge park with walking paths and grassy areas. There are a few picnic tables right on the beach so bring your lunch and enjoy.

Holiday Inn Express Waikiki offers TLA travelers:

1)    Pet friendly

2)    FREE parking (if you mention this blog)

3)    FREE daily Breakfast

4)    Family play area with a renovated pool and mini golf putting area

5)    Nice gym with the latest equipment

FREE PARKING is a huge bonus to stay in Waikiki. Most hotels can charge you up to $40+ a day to park. And if you are waiting on your car to be delivered, the Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) is a quick 10 min ride from this hotel. Visit my Moving and PCS page for more info.

From the hotel you can walk to restaurants and shops in under 10 min. A moped rental shop and Biki bike share is only a block away. Eggs & Things breakfast restaurant is 2 blocks away that offers both Military and Kama’aina discounts. There are two ABC stores where you can get anything you need within a couple blocks. The best is the walk to the lovely view of Diamond Head on Waikiki beach! Go check it out at sunrise and sunset, so amazing.

Fort DeRussy is across the street and the Army Museum is FREE TO THE PUBLIC. I highly recommend you take a visit and tour this two story bunker. There are tons of vintage photos around Oahu, Schofield, Wheeler, Camp McKinley, etc. Lots of history on WW2 and Pearl Harbor. There’s even a UH-1 helicopter on the roof, Tanks in front, and Artillery, uniforms, belongings, guns, and other memorabilia collections.
